On the first Sunday of November 2004, just a little over six years ago, I began my ministry at Woodstock Church of Christ. Our time with you has been sweet, and we have developed such a great love and affection for this congregation. However, over the last few months, it has become apparent to me that it is time for me to step aside from the pulpit. I have accepted a great opportunity to return to the secular workplace in order to support and nurture my family. Last Sunday night, I handed in my resignation to the elders and, under the circumstances, it was best to go forward with an announcement to the congregation as a whole. This morning, I am using this space to inform those of you who were unable to be here last week and also to clear up any confusion that may still exist. My resignation comes at a time that I feel is important for me and my family as well as for the church family as a whole. I am not leaving the pulpit because of a problem in the church or with the leadership. This congregation is strong and vibrant and I pray that you will continue to help it on that path. The opportunity I have before me will keep us in the local area, and due to the overwhelmingly positive response from you, the members, Sameea and I have decided that we will continue to worship here with you, although I will not be filling the pulpit. The process will begin soon to find a minister. This is going to be an exciting time of transition, and will provide us with a unique opportunity to help the Lord’s kingdom grow in Woodstock. In this morning’s lesson I will provide you with more detail by sharing my resignation letter, which I read last week, so that those of you who were not here will be able to hear it for yourselves. Thank you all for your understanding and may God richly bless Woodstock Church of Christ.
